Beat the Dog Days of Summer with a Healthy Treat

Don’t know how to entertain your dog for the day? Since it’s too hot to hang with them outside for too long, there’s a cute furry friend bakery in downtown New Port Richey that may just be the answer.

Doggie Cakes, which opened in May, is a gourmet bakery and boutique for dogs. All of the baked treats, which are prepared and baked at the shop, are made from human-grade ingredients and have no preservatives. They do not contain sugar or salt—ingredients instead include meat, poultry, cheese, peanut butter and fish. You can also pick up animal-inspired greeting cards, organic dog food, gifts for dog-lovers, collars, harnesses, and toys, among other items, while you’re visiting. Of course, your four-legged friend is welcome (as long as he is well-behaved).

Before heading out, check out what they have available at doggiecakes.com. Online, treats are divided into flavor categories so you can search for the treat you think your canine would consider delicious. Prices of the goodies range from $1 for a treat to $30 for a cake—a doggie birthday cake, for instance.
