Story Guidelines

Do you have a story or photograph you feel should be part of Blue Sink Monthly? We would love to hear from you and are interested in having guest contributors to all our issues. Story ideas can be submitted to submissions@bluesinkmonthly.com.

IMPORTANT: Please only submit materials—written or images—that you hold the copyright for. For additional details about story and image guidelines, please keep reading.

Stories

Submit all stories and story ideas to submissions@bluesinkmonthly.com. Please take into consideration our upcoming themes as you share your writing or story ideas:

  • November Sowing Seeds: Eco-friendly activity in our neighborhoods, green businesses and resources, plus ’tis the gardening season in Central Florida. How does your garden grow?
  • December Local Giving: A focus on exceptional and unusual nonprofits active in West Pasco. Personal stories and profiles welcome.

Please consider sending a proposed outline or description of your story prior to submitting it so we can make suggestions about appropriateness, contacts, or other requirements.

Guidelines

  1. Articles should be relevant to the West Pasco region. If the story is about a national or state issue, it should focus on the impact in this area.
  2. General articles range from 300-600 words. Featured articles are 1000-2000 words.
  3. Please interview and quote local individuals. All articles should be submitted with the full names and phone numbers of anyone quoted in your story. If your story quotes other documents or statistics, please identify the sources of that information within the story. In all cases, authors are responsible for fact checking all elements of their stories prior to submission.
  4. If you also have images of any type (eg, photographs, illustrations, graphs) to accompany your story, please follow the image guidelines below.
  5. Include a brief bio at the end of your submission, approximately 2-5 sentences. Bios should include the area you live in and, if applicable, your web site address. When possible, we will always link back to our contributors. Your contact information, including email address and phone number, should also be included, though this info will not be published.
  6. You can submit your story within the body of an email or as an attachment. We are able to accept stories in Microsoft Word format (without macros), text file, or RTF. If you must submit a story in an alternate format, please contact us first.

Images

In general, the best way for us to see a photograph you’ve taken is to submit your photos to our Pasco County Flickr Group.

If you are unable to share your photo with that group or if the image you’re submitting is specific to a story, please send the image via email to submissions@bluesinkmonthly.com.

Guidelines

  1. Submit image files as JPG or GIF only.
  2. Images should be 72dpi and no more than 500 pixels in any direction.
  3. Images should be accompanied with a caption explaining who or what is in the shot.
  4. In general, we prefer to have the full name and contact information for anyone who is the focus of a photograph. This is not required of pictures of crowds, people marching in parades, or other large public gatherings.
  5. Please include your full name, contact information, and, if applicable, your web site, when sending photos. When possible, we will always link back to our contributors.
